Couples Counselling
Couples counselling is a unique specialization and skillset. Couples’ therapists need to be compassionate, objective, and supportive to both members of the couple without taking sides. Our director at Resilient Health, Dr. Berry, R. Psych. [link to website], has worked, taught, and done research in couple therapy for many years. At Resilient Health, we pride ourselves on providing the highest level of couple therapy, using modalities that include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Couple Therapy
- The Gottman Method
- Emotion-focused Couple Therapy
We recognize that couples enter couple therapy at different starting points. Some couples are on the ‘brink’ of a breakup, and need help figuring out what comes next. Others have gone through a trauma, such as a family loss, loss of employment, or infidelity. Other couples wrestle with a communication breakdown, or the build-up of resentments.
Most couples need, and want, to work on issues including:
- Breakdown of communication
- Fixing a dysfunctional pattern of conflict
- Loss of trust
- Problems with sex or intimacy
- Money issues
- Parenting issues
- Frustration or resentment about domestic issues (for instance, needing more help, or more thought about who is doing the cooking, cleaning, childcare, etc.).
These common challenges can be greatly helped by a skilled counsellor, who will help you reduce your pattern of conflict, improve your communication, and resolve the bigger and more persistent issues that affect your relationship. Wherever your relationship is at, we are here to help.
